Question: i've decided to take Verorab rabies vaccine as pre caution/PEP, as there are many stray dogs around my neighborhoods. i base in Thailand where rabies prevail. after my 1st shot, i was completely fine. However, i got a flu like symptoms after my 2nd shot (day 7).

its been 8 days now, and i've still encountered the problems of : sleepiness, leg spasms, and weakness, feeling excessive cold.

Just wanna ask here if:

1.Rabies vaccine Verorab has a side effect of thyroidism?i've read some researches but mostly its in canine. If so any test to verify if ive got vaccine side effects? what test do u suggest eg blood test.
2.Any serious long term side effect of the Verorab vaccine?
3.what i've been experiencing is the side effect of vaccine? or just tiredness from work (im on late shift work recently)
4.Should i continue the remaining 3rd shot as i've got the symptoms.

thank you.

Brief Answer:
Mild side effects, nothing to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help.

1. No, the vaccine does not effect the thyroid in humans, there is no substantial research or studies to support that. There is no specific test to verify side effects, just a clinical examination will help to confirm the side effects.

The most common and reported side effects are:

+Nausea
+Headache
+Dizziness
+Stomach pain
+Muscle pain
+Generalised pain
+Swelling
+Local site irritation where the shot was given (itching, redness, swelling, pain, etc.)

2. Other than these, there are no really major side effects that are seen with the vaccine, and nothing long term sir.

3. Yes, these are side effects of the vaccine, but it could also be influenced with other factors like stress, climate, other medications, etc.

4. Yes, the third shot is the final shot for the pre-exposure rabies vaccine prophylaxis (day 0, 7, 21)

I hope I have addressed all your concerns, please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Not something to worry about here; good sign; few days or weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

It is my pleasure entirely.

1. Autoimmune diseases like SLE are not a side effect of taking the verorab vaccine sir, so there is absolutely nothing to worry about in this aspect. The Hep B vaccine may have some associations, but nothing substantially proved, but nothing to worry about in regards to the rabies vaccine

2. Yes, an improved or increasing appetite is a sign of good health, both physically and mentally

3. It can take a few days, or even weeks since the last dose, but don't worry it shall soon subside, and if you wish your doctor can also prescribe a few medications to help deal with the side effects

I hope this helps sir, please do not think twice before writing to me, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
