Brief Answer:
A gastric protective agent is a good choice

Detailed Answer:
Greetings and welcome to HCM. Thank you for your question. I carefully read your concern.

Regarding your case, I would like to inform you that apixaban (Eliquis) and rivaroxaban (Xarelto) are "blood thinners" which are from the same family of drugs. Therefore, the side effects, complications and actions are similar between the two.

Every drug that is taken orally, has the potential to cause some digestive tract discomfort, let alone that, in your case, I think you take more than solely one of these drugs. In this case, I also would recommend a protein pump inhibitor (PPI) eg. OMEPRAZOLE / PANTOPRAZOLE etc., to protect the stomach innermost lining (mucosa) which may be irritated by the drugs.

Also, a spasmolytic drug, such as Espumisane, would help with the bloating and digestive gas. All I am trying to say is that it is safe to switch back to the former drug, as the purpose that these drugs are used for - preventing clot formation in the heart and subsequent pumping of them to the arteries of the brain circulation - is achieved with both of them. Note to consult with your doctor about your decision, since these drugs have, however, risks of hemorrhage, which I am assuming you have been told.

I hope my answer is helpful. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.

Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
