Answered by Dr. Michelle Gibson James (51 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
anti histamine/decongestants, topical decongestants, warm compress

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Antibiotics would help if the sinuses have a bacterial infection but would need to be used along with other sinus medication.

These medications include: (1) antihistamine /decongestant combination which would be over the counter eg allegra d, zyrtec d, claritine d, benadryl d, etc

(2)topical decongestant as well eg otrivine or normal saline drops

(3)warm compress to the face for 10 to 15 mins , 2 to 3 times a day, this would encourage drainage of secretions from the sinuses. This would reduce congestion and pain

(4)steam inhalation- this would help in the same way as the warm compress- reduce congestion of the sinuses

(5)mucolytic to help break up the mucus so that it would drain better eg guaifenesin, mucomyst, bisolvan

(6)if necessary, nasal sprays such as nasonex, nasocort, flonase or rhinocort . A prescription would be needed

(6)medications such as ketotifen or montelukast are used if the antihistamine/decongestants do not help improve symptoms

Summary: (1) antihistamine//decongestant combination, topical decongestant as well
(2)warm compress and steam inhalation
(3)mucolytic

(4)add other meds if no response

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
