Suggest Treatment For Skin Rash On Legs Of An Infant

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Jun 2014
Question: My 22 days old daughter suddenly has a skin rash on her legs. She has not been put on diaper, we are trying to use cotton cloths. We are not sure from where the rash has been developed. She does not have fever or problem in feeding, however she cries little more than usual, specially when the rash area is being touched. A picture of the rash has been attached with this mail. Kindly advice what should we do. Thanks in advance.

It looks like Erysipelas a Strep skin infection.

Hi,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic.
This looks like Erysipelas,an infection caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
It may start from a minor cut or a small abrasion.
You may use penicillin, Erythromycin or clindamycin, either oral or IM or IV depending upon the severity of infection.
