Suggest Treatment For Skin Wound On Forehead After Injury

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Nov 2015
Question: Last night I slipped outside and part of my forehead can into contact with a large rock. I am ok, but I have what I am calling a "friction" burn, i.e., a smaller than dime size fairly raw looking skin injury. Since this is my forehead am concerned about scaring and how to treat it to heal. Let me be clear, there was no bleeding but the outermost skin layer got "friction" burned so it looks raw.

Brief Answer:
Wound care

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The friction rub or mildly bruised area should first be cleaned with antiseptic povidone solution. Bacitracin is fine. However, triple antibiotic creams used in first aid such as Neosporin are better. If the skin is broken and the wound is dirty then a tetanus toxoid booster should be done. Based on your description, most likely there wont be ant long term scarring and it will heal well. You may upload an image of the area to have a better look at it.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Thank you for your response. A follow-up question: I do have Bacitracin to apply as you suggest. Question: Is this a 1-time (first day)application or are you suggesting applying it repeatedly each day for ___ number of days? Further, I intended to keep it covered with a small spot bandaid. If so, I will be doing a "wet" healing vs. a "dry" (no ointment) healing. Is that correct?
Summary:
1. bacitracin only first day or each day for ___ days?
2. Keep it covered OK?
3. If #2 is "yes" then this will be a "wet" healing vs. dry, correct?
Thank you in advance of your reply, XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Thanks for uploading the image.

1. Bacitracin thrice a day for 5 days would suffice.

2. It does not need covering. Keep it open. No need for band aid. You may apply it when you go outside.

3. The band aid would provide a moist environment that can predispose to wound infection. In my opinion , try to keep it exposed whenever possible for dry healing.

Thanks.
