Suggest Treatment For Sleep Apnea When Diagnosed With Anxiety And Depression

default
Posted on Sat, 4 Feb 2017
Question: I have been diagnosed with depression, ADHD and I am confident that I have sleep apnea. I have other chronic problems I have yet to bring up because I don't want to sound like a hypochondriac.

So I figure I'll list everything that I think is a problem, however small, and see if anyone can make head or tails of any possible issues that I should talk to my doctor about.

Fatigue, I can sleep at times 16+ hours, and I'm always feeling tired.
Back pain. Lower back mostly, and it's frequent. It's dull achy, not sharp.
Bad posture, forward head. I hade had since early childhood.
Chest pain, only when I'm really gassy. Burping seems to relive it a bit. Located right side from collar bone to about the nipple line.
Achy joints, mostly in the knees
Loud snoring, and at times stop breathing.
Teeth grinding, day or night.
Short attention span
Trouble with organization
Poor hygiene
Avoid problems
Social isolation
Childhood issues in school (never do homework, not many friends, even worse hygiene, liked to isolate myself in my room and play with Legos
No girlfriends until age 17ish
Don't "feel" much emotion, or connection. I get sad, irritated, rage, I feel happy and laugh, but it's situational and moder often I feel nothing
I'm married but don't feel connected, I have a child but don't feel it, I love my parents and grand parents but never call.
I have poor eating habits, as in I eat once or twice a day, in large quantities and very fast.
Poor water consumption, usually I drink pop (it helps me wake up and think. Been told I've been self medication and just never knew it).
I have benign cysts all over lower and upper arms, around my torso, and thighs.
Great long term memory, horrible working memory.
Acid reflux issues
Been hospitalized once to acute blood loss due to bleeding ulcer likely tied to excessive use of exedrine for back pain.
Normal thyroid
Peeing slow and I now ejaculate often when I pee. No arousal. Sperm just flows out with the urine.
Thin hair, very brittle, balding, and have one white spot on the back of my head, just the hair, no discoloration of the scalp.
Shaking hands and body, even when sitting. Tense most all of the time. Like white knuckle gripping pens and steering wheel.
Easily winded, and have a weird gait while running. Also short strides despite being extremely tall.
Sometimes uncoordinated walking, sometimes running into things
Anxiety, and lying to avoid problems like being late to work I may say I'm stuck in traffic
Constantly focusing my eyes to see clear
Avoid looking at people I don't know, and when I'm forced to, I unfocused so they are blurry, stare at their nose or forehead, and start thinking about other things
Don't really "think" really just roam responding to stimuli.
No regularity with bowel movements
Eat fast food excessively
Night sweating sometimes to the point my bed gets soaked
Feeling hot all the time
Bladder control (when I do consume water it goes right through me, constantly up to urinate every 10minutes or so
Sneeze when I go outside during a bright day
Poor tolerance for sunlight
Have scarring in the back of one eye, no trauma
Bloated stomach
Poor muscle tone, extremely skinny with a fat belly.
Sunken eye sockets
Large nose bridge, bent, appears broken
Dental crowding lower jaw. Resorption one tooth. Overbite. Dry mouth and bad breath ( hygiene may or may not be related) still smells after I brush.
Heart flutter (I think) when laying down from standing position rarely. No pain but. Feels strange.
Uncontrolled rage at times. Short duration. Don't worry I won't hurt anybody.
Fear heights, people behind me, swimming in lakes and oceans, confrontation.
Nails and hair growth fast
Don't have thoughts about killing myself, but don't care if I live or not.

I am 6'3" (75inches), 190 lbs, 35 years old. I've struggled my entire life with a lot of the above issues. I am seeing a psychiatrist and have been on several medications for depression, ADHD and sleep disorders. I am Caucasian, I used to smoke and drink ( haven't for about 5 years now). I am in the U.S. Navy, been for about 17 years, struggling the entire time. I've talked to many people about these issues but nothing seems to work. I am tired, I want help, but I feel I've hit every XXXXXXX wall in my path. I would consider myself smart when I get a rare chance to focus, and joke about me being the brightest dummy.

I've tried my own research, but too many variables gives inaccurate results. I'm married to a woman who also is depressed making communication hard and love making is now non existent. She stays at home doing nothing except playing and taking care of our child.

I make poor decisions mostly financial, and procrastinate on almost everything. I avoid doctors (don't know why) even when I feel deathly ill.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Per your description, you meet criteria for a few different things: major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and ADHD. Treatment should therefore consist of the following medications: an antidepressant, a stimulant, and psychotherapy. As you have not listed the antidepressants you have tried, I cannot make a suggestion -- typically the SSRIs are best tolerated. A stimulant such as Adderall XR would help. And finally, weekly psychotherapy would be incredibly helpful.
