Question: Hello,

I had a comprehensive metabolic panel random glu on 10/11/2014. Everything came back normal except for my ALT level (59 IU/L) and my AST Level (53 IU/l). Is there anything to be worried about?

Brief Answer:
ALT is mildy raised.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Your findings suggests mildly raised ALT.
Increased ALT indicates liver injury. Increase in SGPT may be due to many reasons like hepatitis, alcohol intake, altered lipid profile, medicines, auto immune causes etc.

AST is non specific finding. It increases in many conditions.

It is good that other tests are normal. You need few other investigations like Lipid profile, viral markers and ultrasound of abdomen.

You need follow up investigations.
If raised ALT persists then I suggest my patients to take tablet Ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg twice daily for three months. It helps in regeneration of liver cells.

You should avoid fatty food.

Proper treatment depend upon full investigation reports.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.
