Suggest Treatment For Sore Right Shoulder Causing Discomfort And Worsening Mobility
Question: I woke up a week ago with a sore right shoulder. The discomfort and mobility has gotten worse. Went to urgent care after a week of this and the X-ray shows large calcification density. I do have RA but have not had any issues with it for 10 years. The urgent care doc is referring me to an orthopedic doctor. Do you think I should be seeing my Rhemotologist?
Brief Answer:
no you need orthopaedic doctor
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. You are having calcification in the shoulder which is causes severe pain. To treat this you need to get it removed with the help of needle or arthroscopy. It can be done by orthopaedic surgeon.
so you should meet a orthopaedic surgeon as early as possible. This condition is not due to Rheumatoid problem. So there is no need to go to rheumatoid doctor.
Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

Would you say that it is common to have such a sudden onset of symthoms occur with calcification, even though the calcification probably has been going on for some time?
Brief Answer:
Yes some time there is acute onset
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
You have asked a very good question. My answer is yes, there is acute onset of symptoms and sudden feeling of severe pain in shoulder. Calcification can not occur overnight. It accumulate gradually and when it causes inflammation then pain starts.
If you have any doubt then you can get MRI of the shoulder. It will tell us if there is any other causes of pain also there like bursitis or rotator cuff tear.
Thanks
