Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Headache
Question: Yes my husband has been painting under the eaves of the house all week & he can barely talk. He has sore throat & headache. He said he has no congestion & no fever. He ate a chicken sandwich & fries & Dr. Pepper for dinner. He will be 79 yrs old in Feb.

Hi XXXXXXX welcome to HCM forum.
This need not be worried much.
Sore throat associated with headache is usually caused by pharyngitis.
As he is not having fever,right now we need not go for antibiotics.
If he is not allergic to,ask him to take Tylenol 650 mg three times a day for 3 days(As he is not having congestion,plain Tylenol is enough,rather than Tylenol PM).
Also,do warm saline gargles 6-8 times a day.Avoid cold drinks/items.
Also drink enough fluids and have a healthy diet.Avoid over exertion.Let him take some rest in between.
If the symptoms fails to come down by 2 days,kindly see your doctor,as this will need antibiotics too.

Thanks but he just took the tylenol pm. It will help him sleep tonight. Will get him the 650 mg of tylenol tomorrow. He has been gargling with warm salt water, but I'm sure not enough. I told him what you said.
