Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat, Painful Ear And Cold

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jan 2015
Question: I woke up this morning with a very, very sore throat. I thought it might be from snoring (inside my CPaP mask) however, my throat is becoming more sore as this day continues. my voice is becoming huskier and deeper. My ear hurts on the same side as my throat hurts. I don't THINK I have a fever, but I am cold. (I work in an office.) My eyes are blood shot. My face is very white, whiter than usual and my cheeks are bright red, redder than usual. I recently completed a round of Prednisone and my allergist prescribed an antibiotic to take for 3 days, then 3 days off, then 3 days on. this is the day to go back on.
Should I leave work to get a strep test? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Might be needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I am Dr Mittal. I have read your query. I think I would be able to help you. The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of upper respiratory tract infection. I would suggest that you try to do the following-
1. Plenty of fluids - 5 litre per day unless otherwise contraindicated.
2. A course of multi vitamin will help.
3. Steam inhalation 4 times a day.
4. Warm saline gargles 4 time per day.
5. Antibiotics as suggested by the doctor there.

I would like to know why you are using CPAP?
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.

Why am I using a CPAP machine? I have been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea after a Sleep Study was conducted, however, the specialist suggested that I come in to his office for another test if I lose 15 or more pounds. does that answer your question?

Brief Answer:
Previos advice should help

Detailed Answer:
Yes,
Why I asked is because many chest conditions like copd also need cpap.
In them respiratory tract infections are common

I think the information I suggested before should help you
On the cost of repetition,

I would suggest that you try to do the following-
1. Plenty of fluids - 5 litre per day unless otherwise contraindicated.
2. A course of multi vitamin will help.
3. Steam inhalation 4 times a day.
4. Warm saline gargles 4 time per day.
5. Antibiotics as suggested by the doctor there.

If symptoms worsen, perhaps you might then consider testing for strep infection.

I hope the the information helps
Best of luck
