Suggest Treatment For Stomach Ache

Question: I am having pain in my stomach since Tuesday. I had eaten some fried chicken from Popeye's on Monday afternoon and had a typical reaction to it - which is diarrhea. I sometimes have this reaction to milk products, poultry and fried foods. This was the last bowel movement I had.

Brief Answer:
May be allergic or infectious.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Welcome to HCM and thank you for the query.
If you do not have fever or your stools are not foul smelling, then probably it is only an allergic reaction which you normally have and it will subside with time.
If there is fever, then it is likely to be an infection. Also look for the color of the stools and see if there is blood.
The abdominal pain can result from two causes - one is the increased movement of the intestines which accompanies the diarrhea.
The other is a gastritis which can produce pain related to food. Please tell me more about the abdominal pain. Is it related to food, if so does it occur before or after eating? Is there any nausea or vomiting? Is there any thing that brings relief?

I shall be happy to give my opinion when I have the information requested and to answer any further queries.
Best wishes,
Dr. Noble Zachariah

I haven't had a bowel movement since Monday so I wouldn't be able to comment on smell or anything like that. When I tried the enemas very little came out - just pellet size, nothing substantial at all. Even eating the foods that usually give me the diarrhea haven't helped.

The pain is there most of the time. It is a dull ache for the most part. When I cough ( I had a slight fever and chills on Tuesday which I presume was a cold or flu) the pain is much sharper.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of sub acute intestinal obstruction.

Detailed Answer:
If you have not had a bowel movement for the past 4 days and if you are having constant dull pain, it is possible that you have a subacute intestinal obstruction or infection.
If you are habitually constipated, then the other possibility is of an acid peptic disease.
You require to be examined and investigated.
Please visit your GP or Internist and he/she will be able to help you.
Meanwhile I suggest you Benefiber 2 tsp twice a day and ibuprofen 200 mg for pain.
Avoid heavy, oily, fat food. Eat fiber contains food.
Hope you will get better soon.
I shall be interested in knowing your progress.
In the meanwhile, I am available for any further query.
