Suggest Treatment For Stomach Issues On Taking Irbesartan

Question: My dr has me on irbesartan and i am having stomach issues he changed me from Losartan Potassiun because of the same issues I am not sure what to do
Brief Answer:
shift to some other class of drugs.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Atheby,
Hope you are in good health.
Losartan and irbesartan are sister drugs and can have same impact on your stomach. As you have similar complaints while on irbe also, the ideal option would be to change to some other drug like amlodipine.
Alternatively, you may try OTC antacids like pantprazole or esomeprazole (nexium) that can help you, as the usual cause of intolerance is gastritis.
All the best.

Brief Answer:
yes.
Detailed Answer:
Yes,
Blood pressure will be taken care by a good hypertension drug like amlodipine.
If the symptoms are really caused by irbesartan, changing the drug will help you. If not, you have to think about other causes of bloating and diarrhoea like gastric ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, amoebiasis etc.
Your doctor might order the required investigations for that. Hope I am clear.
