Suggest Treatment For Stomach Pain And Constipation
Considerations
Detailed Answer:
hello and thanks for sending the question.
At this point since he has not responded to stool softeners or laxatives I would recommend you consider an enema. This might directly alleviate the problem and allow him to clear his bowels.
However, if the symptoms continue and you are not able to alleviate his symptoms he should be evaluated in the local emergency department where they might help to relieve his discomfort.
it's also important for the doctors to try to understand why he has developed his constipation. One of the most common causes of this is pain medications. Other possibilities include some type of bowel obstruction. For this reason I think if an animal is not successful that he should be evaluated as soon as possible.
Thanks again for sending the question.
Dr. Galamaga
He did take some narcotic pain meds only after the stomach pain started to become unbearable and my father has a very very high tolerance to pain. I am very worried that with bloat, no bowel movement, and the amount of laxatives etc. that he has taken that it is an obstruction. Are there any specific symptoms to look for with an obstruction?

Detailed Answer:
symptoms of obstruction mainly involves progressive and worsening pain with significant swelling and bloating of the abdomen.
If his pain continues to increase I think honestly the best course of action would be to bring him to the emergency department for immediate evaluation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Galamaga
