Suggest Treatment For Streptococcal Or Mycoplasma Infection

It's a 2 month wait to get into see the doctor that we want to bring him to . He is having so much trouble in school that we can not wait the 2 months to start treatment .We have an integrative doctor that is willing to treat him with antibiotics but she does not have that much experience with it because it is a new ( and also controversial ) disorder .Any idea which antibiotic ( or combination of antibiotic ) has shown results with these kids ?.Also , is IVIG considered safe ?How rigorous is the screening process for these blood donors ?
Try penicillins; very safe; very rigorous
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I am sorry to hear about what your son is experiencing, and yes PANDAS is indeed new and controversial, but there is some data available on the treatment options.
The antibiotics most commonly used are penicillin, azithromycin and amoxicillin. But at times, more severe ones can also be used depending on the response (but it should be avoided as much as possible). I would recommend trying out penicillins.
Yes, IvIg is considered safe and should be used in those patients who have severe symptoms and need help with their immune systems; I would not doubt the performance of IvIg at all.
Plasmapheresis is also one such technique employed to help boost the immune system; which is why you have enquired about the blood donors. Well the screening process is quite rigorous, and you should not have to worry about this as it is the most basic requirement in such situations (i.e. for the screening to be as rigorous as possible).
I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.
Best wishes.
