Suggest Treatment For Sudden Severe Upper-mid Breast Bone Pain, Fatigue And Shallow Breathing

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Sep 2015
Question: relatively sudden onset of fairly severe upper-mid breast bone area pain, with more tenderness on upper right side under/around breastbone area, and some on left upper area as well, with pressing can feel tenderness, and in moving around--as with before--excessive often explosive belching, with different reclining positions, including right-sided under back pillow support providing some relief; standing and walking around helps some, but sporadic continual belching (hx of ibs, no real flare-up for long time, including the air swallowing, and gastritis) and fatigue with some shallow breathing which starts to subside after laying down and resting; pressure from bra can help worsen though relieving this only helps a small amount; ongoing for approximately 1-2 weeks, with on-off flareups and taking to bed and taking probiotics, garlic oil, 2% milk or whole which helps some, and then just getting up and trying to resume normal activities. Have wondered whether intermittent food/chemical poisoning could be coming into play, or whether it's just a return to long-over (15 plus years) partial (I felt partially diagnosed despite extensive tests, with ibs, gallstones, questionable pancreas/liver involvement diagnoses) irritable -though before, very inflammatory-stomach condition. Flare-up goes along with high stress, and characteristic foods can come into play, though hot/spicy can actually help at times instead of instigate. Big questions here-usually a gradual onset but then it can get worse very quickly, and become very painful. Gradually, with rest and doing what I can, it starts subsiding. Can you help please?

Brief Answer:
Looks like it is costochondritis and IBS

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history, very self explanatory.

The pain and the tenderness you are getting looks to be costochondritis and due to the common factors that work for IBS, one can get this too. Although the exact reasons are not known, the factors that instigate or enhance IBS are responsible for it.
I would suggest a general guideline to help ease the problems:

Treatment:
''STRESS'' = stress is the most important cause of IBS/Costochondritis and such symptoms. Please remember and you must have observed that when you do not have stress your problem with IBS is reduced
Change of lifestyle.
I think 'may be' you are not coping with something.
Vacation outside of your area. You must have noticed already that these changes help a lot.
Try to avoid anything which you are/have to do against your will and wish. Get into the hobbies which make you forget the world around you.

If the change of routine helps, the necessity of medicines is drastically reduced to almost nil.
Medicines ::
You need to have a prescription of a Doctor, please discuss this with a Gastroenterologist/Family Physician to get a prescription. I would like to know which medicines have you taken in the past and in which dosage
Vit A and Vit D in therapeutic doses,
Multivitamins ,
probiotics- (you are already taking)
Anxiolytics (need a prescription) help a lot.

I would suggest the following treatment for the pain in the chest.
-Anti-inflammatory medicines in full dose as per the weight, the ones that do not disturb your stomach, those you know to suit you well.
-Control of stress and anxiety helps a lot as we discussed above.
-Local rubefacient liniments.
-Confirmation of the diagnosis by local Doctor on palpation and clinical evaluation and to get prescription based medicines after discussing the above points.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications or if you feel there is a gap of communication.
