Question: I punctured my right thumb with a security tag at work. the area around it is not swollen just red. not hot no fever. I had a little muscle pain throughout the whole arm so I took aleve and kept it from moving as much as possible as directed by a doctor. today I woke up and it has a weird burning feeling and the pain is worse. my arm has the feeling like I have lifted weights all week. it's weak I guess you could say.

Brief Answer:
Local Inflammation and swelling.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
This is probably local swelling and inflammation due to trauma.
I advise following in such situation:
1. To take a combination of Diclofenac and Serratiopeptidase that would reduce the pain and swelling. This should be taken for 3-5 days
2. Hot fomentation should be done locally.
3. If swelling is severe with pain, cellulitis might develop so if the swelling and redness is much I advise a short course of antibiotic like Augmentin.
4. Tetanus vaccine shot as a prophylaxis.
These measures help gradually and a person recovers well in 5 days.
If you have any further query please ask me.
