Suggest Treatment For Swelling Behind Ear With Normal Biopsy Result
Question: I have a slight swelling behind my left ear. As a result of my doctors suggestion, I have had a needle biopsy of my parotid and the results showed no cancer. would you suggest that I have a parotidectomy ?
Brief Answer:
Go for parotidectomy if you have chronic parotidit
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I have gone through your query; it suggests that you may be suffering from the left chronic parotiditis. In this condition I personally suggest you that if swelling is not subside after antibiotic course and persist then go for sonography of neck with color Doppler and if needed then also go for parotidectomy.
For better answering send me the FNAC and sonography report or consult with your ENT specialist.
Thanks

I have had the sonography with contrast and afterwards the needle biopsy. My ENT specialist has not prescribed any antibiotics. Even though the biopsy results were negative, my ENT seemed to to me be a little anxious to go the surgery route. If in fact the surgery is the route to take, how immediately do you feel it should be done. Also, what are the risks to this surgery? The sonogram and the biopsy were done in late December. Thanks

Hi Sir,
I have gone through your follow up query; and suggest you that better to go for the parotidectomy.
Faith on your doctor, for your kind information there are so many complications in any surgery but the main complication that related to this surgery is the facial palsy if deep lobe is involved. I personally advised that discus with your ENT specialist about this.
Thanks
