Brief Answer:
MRI of the knee

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.

While traumas or microtraumas of the knee due to incorrect position of the foot are common with subsequent knee swelling it is very important the appropriate measure to take in order to prevent progression of the condition.

The appropriate treatment is strongly connected to the diagnosis.

The tools that help on the diagnosis are RX and MRI of the knee.

But after a week of swelling you should rule out an eventual rupture of the knee ligaments (ACL and PCL)
The ONLY test to reveal or eventually rule out is MRI. That is why you should go directly for a MRI as soon as possible. Meanwhile it is recommended rest.

Hope this helps.
