Suggest Treatment For Swelling On The Base Of Neck
Question: I am a 57 year old female taking Lisinopril and citalopram. I noticed a swollen area at the base of my neck, like at the collar bone. The area feels soft, jello like. It lasts a week or so then goes away. Yesterday I noticed the same thing on the right side. What could cause this?

welcome to HCM
As i can understand that your chief complaints is of swelling over base of neck that lasts for a week and then disappears.
Your are taking lisinospril and citalopram.
We need to suspect the causes for swelling, it could be heart related, allergy to drug, kidney related, etc.
To have a clearer clinical picture i would need to know
Is the swelling restricted to that area, or involves large area of body?
Is the swelling over shin too?
Is there associated complaints of breathlessness, chest heaviness, etc?
Is there associated symptoms of fever, chills, rash, etc?
Answers to these can help me to have a better idea of condition.

Brief Answer:
a consultation to local surgeon is advisable
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the information.
It gets clear now that the swelling is localised over the area mentioned, not associated with breathlessness and pain.
Considering the information we have we need to investigate it as local swelling.
There are following possibilities that appears to my mind
local swelling due to Lymphatic obstructions,
swelling due to local venous abnormalities.
The differentiation can only made only on the basis of detailed inspectory and plapatory examination and few investigation.
My suggestions to you are..
A consultation to a local surgeon is advisable. As a the site needs to be inspected, palpated, and percussed.
An Xray chest and if needed an ultrasound testing of the swelling.
Serum electrolytes, liver function test, serum protein, and urinalysis- these investigation are suggested.
Only once we establish a cause and the nature of swelling further comment and decision on its management can be made.
Hope you find the above opinion helpful.
