Suggest Treatment For Swelling With Red Patches Around It On Leg
Question: Hi my father 76 years old, was admitted to hospital last week on swelling in one of the leg and having fever. On diagnosis it was discovered that the swelling is because of Bacterial infection and was on antibiotic.
Symptoms:
Swelling, Red patches around swelling.
Now he was on antibiotic for 5 days after discharge, But the swelling is not completely gone, but has reduced to some amount. All the test reports showed normal.
Could you please help me how long will it take to cure and if he needs to take some other other treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
This seems to be a result of cellulitis.
If you can attach a photograph of the area i can give you a better idea.
However, for cellulitis, antibiotics must have been given, that have reduced the swelling.
I advise following in such situations:
1. A combination like Zynase-D/ Zerodol-SP twice a day for 5 days.
2. To add a a drug to prevent acidity like Pantoprazole 40 mg once a day.
If swelling increases, or he gets fever, or he gets pain in calf muscles, or any breathlessness, then further evaluation and treatment would be required.
The swelling would subside in around one week after starting these medications.
If it persists beyond that, write to me again.
If you have any further query please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
