Your problem doesn't look like dangerous,it's controllable ..
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back,
I have seen the picture closely,
The swelling around the focus and redness indicates inflammatory responce of the surrounding tissue,
It can progress in two directions,
1) In more people it will regress itself without any intervention or antibiotics required, all what's needed is tylenol twice a day to control inflammatory response around the area.
2) In about 10% of people it can get worse in these patients medical check up and antibiotic course with antibiotic ointment is required.
MY OPINION:
In my opinion according to your history and its appearance it is expected to regress in a couple of days,, Do warm compresses over it and i would also ask my patients in my clinic to use topical gentamicin cream or polyfax with tylenol to control inflammation. This usually works without the need to use antibiotics.
In later case when it gets worsened , one needs to use antibiotics, this seems to be a remote possibility because you don't have diabetes and you aren't on any dangerous meds.
SUGGESTIONS:
1) You can wait for a couple of days more, if you feel it getting worsened then you might want to visit a doctor.
2) You can use tylenol twice a day and over the counter cream like polyfax ..and 6 hourly warm compresses. It should start regressing in a day or two.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow
up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us.
Wishing you good health
