Suggest Treatment For Swollen Eyes After Cataract Surgery
Question: i had cataract surgery on both eyes, XXXXXXX 20 and july 1, 2014. since then my under eyes are increasingly puffy and swollen, some days worse than others. i'm seeing blurred and double. been back to my surgeon, and 2 other surgeons i had consulted prior to surgery. none seem willing to address themselves to the situation. i am totally miserable.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.
It seems from the history that you following cataract surgery you are having puffy and swollen eyelids.
This is probably because of dry eyes. Cataract surgery is known to worsen the dryness of eyes. This is probably the reason for blurred vision in your case.
The treatment I advice is to continue use of artificial tears and you need to continue use of restasis eye drops as restasis is known to provide very good results in treatment of dry eyes and controlling the acute phase induced by the cataract surgery.
Along with this use of cold compression and use of anti-inflammatory drugs like Flurbiprofen will help to relieve the puffiness and swelling of the eyelids.
Hence I think that the symptoms you are having are because of dry eyes probably exaggerated by the inflammation induced by the cataract surgery and with treatment for dry eye your symptoms will resolve.
Do consult your doctor and get evaluated for the severity of dry and for treatment accordingly.

this isn't upper lids, it's lower, like major bags UNDER my eyes. had been using restaisis for around a year PRIOR to surgery. stopping seemed to offer a bit of relief. for a while. thought i might be allergic to something in the drops. i've got some flurbiprofen on hand. it's .03%. is that okay for human use. put a drop in each eye just now. lower rims feel better. how often do i use it? will talk to my surgeon's office on tuesday.
