Brief Answer:
needs further investigation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

unilateral swelling requires careful assessment to exclude deep vein thrombosis (DVT). DVT is a very serious situation which may lead to even fatal complications. I cannot give you a diagnosis based on your description only but this kind of symptoms make DVT possible. An utrasound scan (triplex) of the leg veins would confirm or exclude it.

Other potential causes may include:
- heart problems (heart failure causing fluid accumulation in the legs). An ultrasound scan (triplex) of the heart should suffice for confirmation.
- infections: the diagnosis is clinical.
- prior surgery: orthopedic operations may cause swelling particularly on the affected side.
- other less common situations like insufficient lymph drainage, etc

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Kind Regards!
