Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: Hi I just recently found a swollen lymph node on my groin and also a form of bumps on one of my buttocks. Clear fluid when popped and a little painful when sat upon. Had ultrasound and blood work done and the doctor said it can be an infection that's causing the inflamed lymph node. What can this be???

Brief Answer:
Probably the infection causing the swollen node!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these findings and all the disturbing thoughts this must have caused you.

From the information you have provided, the swollen lymph node is probably in response to the infection around the groin. Lymph nodes often swell and become bigger in an attempt to fight infections. This is the most common cause of swollen node. They get resolved after the infection is contained and eradicated.

For now, I recommend that you go on with prescribed treatment for the bumps on the buttocks. As it clears, the nodes would also return to their normal size but not immediately. Keep calm and be relaxed because this is not concerning at this time for any chronic disease condition.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
For the swollen lymph node of infection?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for following up with me.

Yes, you can get treated for th infection on your buttocks. If this has not be done, I will recommend that you send an image of this infection site for review and recommendations. There are several infection types and treatment varies a lot. This is the reason why I want to be sure of the exact infection before any specific treatment plan is recommended.

For the lymph node, there is no need doing anything special at this time as it would regress once the infection is controlled.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.

Brief Answer:
Disinfect with Iodine/sitz baths!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for the images.

For now, I recommend that you use iodine for sitz baths. This consist in putting some iodine into a bowl of lukewarm water and allowing the buttocks and anus to rest inside for 15minutes. Do this at least thrice a day and after each stool. This would keep the area clean, germ free and accelerate healing.

I hope this helps. Keep me updated with the progress. I wish you a speedy recovery.
