Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of GERD

I recently had a abdominal ultrasound due to sour metallic taste in back of throat, burning, belching and difficulty swallowing. Two weeks ago I had an intense burning localized pain just below my stuntman which radiated around my right flank. My NP ordered an untrasound. The ultrasound came back negative for gallbladder or kidney stones but MAYBE part of my gallbladder might not be functioning. Yesterday I had a XXXXXXX injected test (HIDA) and have not found out the results. There is no diet chorelation meaning specific foods don't seem to trigger it. I have not lost weight and I have a good appetite. Just always miserable.
Possibly GERD
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
In reading this, I am wondering if an acid reducer other than OTC Prevacid has been tried? Your symptoms sound very characteristic of acid reflux.
Does the Prevacid help at all, such as mildly for a short time?
Some of the proton pump inhibitors, such as Prevacid can cause increased reflux (which it is supposed to treat) in some people. So I often start patients on H2 blocker such as Zantac 150 mg twice a day or 300 mg at bedtime.
However, if that doesn't work, then a prescription strength proton pump inhibitor (stronger than the over the counter ones) can be tried, such as pantoprazole.
At this point, I would request seeing the physician who works over the NP as this is likely to be out of the nurse practitioner's league. Or, request a referral to a gastroenterologist.
I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
