Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Madelung Disease
Question: I have a few questions regarding Madelung Deformity and Madelung Disease. My daughter (23 yrs old) just had surgery on her left arm for Madelung Deformity a week ago. As I was searching on the internet for more information regarding it, I happen to read over the description for Madelung Disease and was immediately taken aback as my son (28 yrs old) just had surgery in December, 2014 to have 3 lipomas on his arm and upper torso removed that were getting larger and has 10+ that are about dime size or larger on his arms and upper torso. The doctors did not give him a clear explanation as to why he has so many of the lipomas. Is there a correlation in Madelung Deformity and Madelung Disease? How is Madelung Disease diagnosed? Is it a common gene that causes both conditions?

Detailed Answer:
Hi
madelungs deformity is because of shift of distal radio-ulnar joint of wrist more commonly with dislocation/subluxation of lower end of ulna bone of forearm or in acompaniment of fracture lower end radius bone of forearm malunion.
Madelungs disease is different and unrelated to madelung deformity and may not be hereditically connected as may be your doubt. It is a chance co-incidence that both children have problems with a common first name of the scientist "madelung"
dignosis may be clinical evidence of multiple lipomas in different places in body
