Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of UTI

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Dec 2015
Question: For about 4 weeks I have had symptoms of a UTI, bladder feels irritated, frequent urination, pelvic pain. I am 39 years old, was put on a 7 days course of Cipro, seemed a bit better then a couple of days later the same feelings came back. Urine test came back negative the 2nd time. Wondering if this could be my anxiety making me feel this way? Can't seem to think about anything but my bladder!! I also had to urinate every 20 minutes last night, a good amount comes out but it's irritating! No diabetes, kidney function is great. Help

Brief Answer:
It can be anxiety or any cause leading to an overactive urinary bladder

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. It is probable that you are having a lot of anxiety since you were treated for the UTI 4 weeks back and this is causing a sensation of bladder fullness and need to urinate frequently.

2. Other causes can include an overactive urinary bladder which is a condition where the individual feels the need to void frequently. Overactive bladder is a general term and there are many reasons for it to occur. It can happen following UTI, excessive consumption of caffeine or alcohol, constipation, incomplete bladder emptying, increased urine formation and neurological problems among others.

3. It is nice to know that your kidney function is great and you are not having diabetes. You can choose to reduce your anxiety, limit your caffeine and alcohol and drink less amount of water towards the late evening and night (if the urination is more during the night). If these do not help you then an ultrasound scan of the urinary bladder for the urinary bladder volume and post void urine volume estimation might be required if recommended by your doctor, to know if there is any incomplete voiding of the bladder.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have nay doubts.
