Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of UTI

Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: My 9 year old daughter has suffered with stomach pains and pains where I perceive to be where her uterus and ovaries are but maybe it's her intestines. Light-headedness accompanies this frequently. She suffered with these symptoms tonight for a couple hours culminating in vomiting twice and now she's finally asleep. This has been going on for at least 3 years. The vomiting is rare. She also suffers from anxiety and is seeing a therapist but I don't feel like this is the reason for these symptoms. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Needs lab tests to rule out urinary tract or gastrointestinal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concerns but don't worry. The most likely reasons for such symptoms in this age group is a urinary tract infection. The less likely reasons can be gastrointestinal infection or pelvic inflammation. I would recommend you to get her following tests done so that we can reach a definitive diagnosis nd treat it accordingly:
- CBC, ESR
- C reactive protein
- Urine - routine & microscopy, leucocyte esterase
- Stool- routine & microscopy, rule out ova and cyst as well
- Ultrasound abdomen

You may upload the reports for my review and definitive treatment. In the meantime, give dicyclomine or acetaminophen for pain relief if present.

Take care
