Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Anxiety

short term course of anti anxiety medicines is needed
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.
Your problem is started with sore throat. Prozac for 2 days cannot help. It is an SSRI drug and it takes almost 3-4 weeks to shot its optimum effects. Rather initially it may increases anxiety and sleep disturbance. So do not take prozac.
Unisom is an antihistaminic and can help in sleep when there is mild problem.
Your problem seems to be anxiety rather than insomnia as you are getting almost adequate sleep.
As these symptoms are there since 2 weeks only I recommend short term course of anti anxiety medicines. Benzodiazepines group of drugs (clonazeapm, lorazepam or alprazolam) are used for short duration for fast symptomatic relief. It can be tapered of gradually. These are prescription medicines and you have to consult doctor for that.
Whenever you feel anxious take deep slow breathing. Inhale for 3 seconds, keep breath in for 3 seconds and exhale for 3 seconds. Do it for 10-15 minutes.
Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.

I also got safety kleen diesel additive on my skin and inhaled some fumes which might account for my sore throat
recovery in past suggests you will recover this time also
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for follow up.
Your history suggests that you are prone to anxiety. However in past you have came out of anxiety problem easily without much problem. This means you will come out this time also. You should go for psychotherapy also.
Best treatment of any anxiety disorder includes both medicines and psychotherapy. .
In psychotherapy I recommend cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). In mild cases only CBT is sufficient. In moderate to severe cases initially medicines and then CBT is added. And later on medicines stopped gradually.
In medicines SSRI group of drugs (fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, escitalopram) are main stay of the treatment. I prefer paroxetine when anxiety is more.
In your case CBT will be useful.
Take care.
