Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Dementia
Question: My father was suffering from confusion, cognitive impairment, irritation, and uncomfort in legs and in lower spine. Less control in walking , difficult to sit and stand up from floor. Movement like a statue.
He was prescribed resperidol 2mg, tryhexyphenidyl 2 mg, colihenz 500 mg, flucosin 50 mg and lorazepam 1mg For one month. He improved , then next month tryhexyphenidyl, colihenz and lorazepam were given twice and one vitamin tablet. Again improvement was there but still had problem in legs and spine.
So after two months , resperidol , tryhexyphenidyl and lorazepam are stopped. sertaline 50 and clonazepam 2mg started at night with rejive capsule in afternoon.
So are we at right track. His mental condition has improved considerably in last two months. Only thing that improved less is his leg and spine problem. So stopping tryhexyphenidyl will be a good idea?

Brief Answer:
Get him examined by a neurologist
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
The symptoms are of dementia and probably parkinsonism.
Examination by a neurologist is required.
The drugs are OK but changes may be required if parkinsonism is suspected.
Trihexyphenydl can be continued as it reduces rigidity but also aggravates memory issues.
Balance of drugs is necessary.
Another possibility at this age is normal pressure hydrocephalus.
Mri brain is required.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
