Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Tinnitus
Question: I wear ear plugs to sleep as my wife snores a bit and I am a light sleeper. Last night for the first time I can hear this noise in my left ear only. It is like a constant (sounds like) dot dot dot dot dot dot noise at the rate of about 300 or more "dots" a minute. When it first started last night the "dots" were interrupted by very fast "drum roll" sounds about every 5 seconds that would last for about 1 or 2 seconds and then back to the "dots" again. Today im only hearing the "dots" and only if im in the quiet or put ear plugs in etc. Ive never had this before. I have previously, if laying with my head just right on the pillow been able to hear my heart beat, which of course sounds like a heart beat and at the same beat as mu pulse. Im quite conserned as I couldn't sleep last night form the constant noise in my ear. Thankyou.
Brief Answer:
seems more likely due to tinnitus
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.
In my opinion, the sounds you described is called tinnitus.
Tinnitus as per your history is due to middle ear and inner ear pathology. It needs to be clinically evaluated to understand the cause and treatment.
Emperically I would have treated you with betahistine tablet (16 to 24 mg twice daily for 3 weeks) along with multivitamin supplement. If symptoms persists, then please consult with your doctor and get evaluated. Betahistine is not available over the counter. Contact your local doctor for a prescription.
But tinnitus in your ear is not due to your wife snoring.
Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.
