Suggest Treatment For Tactile Hallucination Causing Crawling Sensation In Urethra
Consultation
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.
What you are describing is concerning for tactile hallucinations. I can assure you that mice are not actually running up your legs, even though you may be feeling it. The good news is that this can be treated with an atypical neuroleptic medication. I recommend trying Risperdal or Zyprexa. Speak to a prescribing psychiatrist in your area. I would also consider visiting a neurologist to make sure there are no brain lesion causing this sensation.

Dear Doctor Shepp,
How can hallucinations wake me at night with the pain? I feel something crawling up inside me and it really hurts. Maybe it is not mice, maybe it is a parasite... but surely I am not imagining it. When I went and stayed with my daughter for the holidays, it went away. I really think it is something in the house. And is it not possible for it to be connected to my age? To think I am that nutty is unsettling but it does not stop it from being very physically painful (burning sensation, swelling). It actually began last spring with something crawling in my eyes... It was driving me wild and though the eye doctor could see nothing she prescribed steroid and other cream and it finally went away. She said it was probably allergies. That is when it began in my lower body. Couldn't it be some mucous eating parasite? I drink diet pepsis a lot, which I thought might play a factor. this problem has caused me to lose 15 pounds. I could not find a way to email you privately as you had suggested.

Detailed Answer:
Let me clarify what I mean by hallucination. I am totally agreeing with you that you are feeling everything you describe. You are actually experiencing these physical symptoms. However, what you describe cannot be caused by mice or parasites. I am trained and licensed as a physician and this is simply not possible. Your mind is playing tricks on you. Again, you are really experiencing these very real symptoms, but they are not caused by parasites or mice. They are caused by an excess of dopamine in your brain. I would consult a psychiatrist in your area and ask to be prescribed an atypical neuroleptic like Risperdal.
