What Is The Body Adjustment Period After Taking Zyprexa?

My husband is on Zyprexa 15 mg. How long is the adjustment period for his body? He has been on it for a couple weeks and is sleeping 12 hours a day, seems tired all the time and has muscle cramps. Is there any hope that he will get more energetic?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Several weeks of treatment may be required to obtain the full therapeutic effect with Olanzapine (Zyprexa), and to take the medication exactly as prescribed. Somnolence & Muscle aches/cramp are due to side effect of the drug. The dose is adjustable and can be reduced to 10 mg/day. Have a word with your Psychiatrist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Tushar Kanti Biswas, Internal Medicine Specialist
