Suggest Treatment For Talofibular Ligament Tear
Question: Hi,
I sprained my left ankle on March, 30th and have been wearing a walking boot since then. I've had a MRI and the results have showed a complete tear on the talofibular ligament and partial tear on the calcaneofibular. My foot is not swollen anymore and I'm a 3 on the pain scale.
My orthopedist told me to start wearing an AirCast ankle brace yesterday. I have tried, yesterday and today, and I have been experiencing a lot of dizziness/light headness and some nausea when I try walking with it, both yesterday and today. I don't feel any pain or other discomfort other than the compression of the brace. I gradually feel better after taking the brace off.
What would be causing the dizziness? How should I procede? Should I keep on wearing the brace?
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
You better continue wearing the brace.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concerns.
As you have tear of the talofibular ligament, you should continue wearing the brace.
I think your dizziness, nausea are probably incidental finding, not related to brace wearing. For that take plenty of water. You can take tablet ondem for nausea. This is a prescription drug.
please get your blood pressure checked as well.
hope this will help you..
Regards.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX
I still have the walking boot with me, and when I walk with it I don't feel dizzy. Wouldn't it be better to keep on wearing the walking boot instead of the brace?
Please note that every time I walk 3 mins or more with the brace on I get light headed.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
So you can continue with boots too.
Detailed Answer:
okay I got your problem.
you can continue with boot too.
Actually these are used to keep the tendons compressed during walking so that tension decreases.
If you are doing well with boots, continue with it..
Consult your doctor to recheck MRI.
Hope this will help you.
