Suggest Treatment For Tenderness In Abdomen And Muscle Weakness

default
Posted on Sat, 13 Sep 2014
Question: I have a tenderness in my abdomen, right side below my rib cage. When I feel it, it seems slightly lumpy. Could it be my liver or gallbladder? Both medicines, losartan/Hctz and Atorvastin, have possible liver impact. Both also cause muscle weakness and I have that too. I am being treated for hypothyroid and that seems contraindicated with Losartan.

Hi

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Thank you for writing to us.
Noted your concern.
Tenderness on the right side of abdomen could be because of multiple reasons. Gall stones , Muscle pain, lower rib pain, and rarely liver enlargement etc can cause lead to this pain. Theoretically, Atorvastatin can increase liver enzymes, but in clinical practice, I hardly ever come across such a scenario.

More than muscle weakness, it cause muscle pain ( CPK enzyme can be high). But it is a wonderful drug and plays a big role in protecting against heart disease and stroke.

Personally as well as with the background of evidence, I can surely say that Losartan doesn't interfere with thyroid medicines.

You may please do a full liver function test, Vitamin D level and an ultrasound of abdomen. That will surely give a clue about the abdominal pain
