Suggest Treatment For Throat Infection, Dizziness And Imbalance

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Mar 2015
Question: I have been prescribed CALVEPEN 666MG for a throat infection. I am on day four of treatment and I woke up today feeling unbalanced, dizzy at times and out of sorts. This has continued through the day. When I bend over it almost feels like a wave that pushes my centre of gravity forward. Could this be a side effect of the medication or something else. I do not have a fever and my infection has cleared up.

Brief Answer:
seems to be BPPV (BENIGN POSITIONAL PROXIMAL VERTIGO)

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having dizziness. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any head-ache or vomiting ?
Is your dizziness associated with ear pain ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

As per your clinical details, it seems to be BPPV (Benign positional proximal vertigo ) or due to nutritional deficiencies. Oral CALVEPEN (Phenoxymethylpenicillin) will not cause dizziness. It is mainly related to stomach adverse effects.
I suggest you to consult ent surgeon, get detailed ent examination, vestibular tests (to differentiate central from peripheral vertigo), blood tests (hemoglobin percentage, serum electrolytes, calcium levels and tsh levels).

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

There is no headache, earache or vomiting. It just started today. When I sat up this morning, it felt like I was falling forward. There is a strange feeling at the base of the right side of my head.

NEEDS VESTIBULAR TESTS.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Dizziness during change of posture and movements of head always occurs due to BPPV.

Kindly evaluate with vestibular tests and above investigations.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
