Question: I have vaginal pain, awakened me in the middle of the night. no itching, no discharge, no urinary sx other than frequency. I checked my urine with a dipstick and only hemolyzed blood ( idiopathic I am told, chronic for 20 years or so). The pain is kind of throbbing. I am 47, menopausal. no pain with intercourse. ???

Brief Answer:
Atrophic vaginitis , further examination and evaluation needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

It could be Atrophic vaginitis where the vagina can become dry due to hormonal deficiency. This is a fertile environment for superimposed infections too as a result of any abrasions, injury etc. The vagina needs to be examined for any swelling or edema or focus of infection. Speculum exam, vaginal swab and Urine R/E should be advised as part of the workup. Lubrication during sex should be used even though you state that you don't have symptoms during intercourse. Internal evaluation is required and it would be appropriate to consult a gynecologist to discuss these options.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
