the ringing sensation has been going on for about 8 months. no history of trauma or loud sound exposure. she has a mild hearing loss as you would expect with someone 71 years old. thank you I await your reply.

Thanks for the follow up query..it is very common in old age people to have hearing loss accompanied with ringing in the ears..this is due to nerve weakness leading to absurd sounds..
Even if she doesn't have much loss, high frequency loss causes tinnitus..get an audiometry done and guve her a hearing aid, that will help her a lot
also give her vitamin b12 1500 micrograms daily
and tablet cinnarizine twice daily
medicines will be available only on prescription..
Also get her examined for any ear wax..if it is there,get it cleaned..this will also help with tinnitus..
