Suggest Treatment For Tiredness, Itchy Legs And Joint Stiffness While Having Thyroid Disorder
Question: I had a thyroidectomy 18 months ago and was put on 100mg thyroxine. This dose was proven to be too high due to side effects of sleeplessness, stress etc. The dose was reduced to 2mg and as this seemed to be still too high was instructed to take it every other day, then try leaving it off completely. I then came to experience symptons of underactivity. The Surgeon also removed two parathyroids. I am gradually being reintroduced to thyroxine and am at present taking 50mg and due to the fact apparently that there Is a waiting time to get an accurate reading adjustment, and I'm still not feeling well was wondering if a there is an effective method to speed this up. It's not much "fun" going through the side effects of under/overactive thyroid symptons and not feeling well all the time.
My current symptoms: At the present time - tiredness but only sleeping in short intervals - 2- 4 hours maximum, restless and itchy legs worse in bed at night. Not feeling well and have numb extremities and joint stiffness particularly on awakening. I had a Mitral Valve replacement 4 years ago and am also on Warfarin so have to watch my Vitamin K intake as my INR has been very low lately. I mainly eat organic and only eat some chicken occasionally. Had a TIA 6 months ago due to having several vaccines pumped into me because I was going to XXXXXXX it turns out that I didn't need them anyway. I sill haven't recovered fully from this. I am 80 years old but have been very active - retired from work 5 year ago and not ready to give up yet.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
If you have been taking Thyroxine 50ug for more than 3 weeks, you can get a TSH and FT4 done in the fasting state before any medication and that will help to decide your thyroid status.
Sleeping difficulty and restlessness has several causes in addition to the thyroid disorder. Atarax at be time may be helpful till you are investigated and the issue sorted out.
I am very glad to know that you are very active and wish you good health.
Do get back to me if you have further queries.
