Suggest Treatment For Tooth Infection

Question: Dear Dr,
Could you please give me your opinion on the small lump in the attached pictures?
The tooth closest to the lump had a root canal filling about 10 years ago. Also, could the tooth be the cause of the lump?
Regards
doctor

Brief Answer:
Gum infection, tooth infection, scaling, re RCT, medication

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the small lump over the gums is concerned, I have two possibilities. It can be because of the gum infection secondary to deposits. The other possible cause can be a exacerbation of previous tooth infection(Secondary to improper root canal treatment). According to the images you have uploaded, it looks like gum infection. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. You need to take a radiograph to confirm the diagnosis.
If it is a gum infection, you can the teeth cleaned(scaling). If it is a exacerbation of previous tooth infection then, the root canal treatment has to be repeated. Mean while you can take a course of antibiotics like doxycycline(if you are not allergic).
I hope my answer will help you, take care.

Dr, thank you for your response.

I have attached 2 more pictures.

The lump did bust the other day and some pus and blood came out. On the next day some more pus had been created so it was pressed out.

1. Should one continue pressing it out if it comes back or just leave it?
2. Can anything be done to close the lump or make it contract?
3. Is there any risk of having to remove the tooth?

Brief Answer:
RCT, scaling, radiograph

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
I have gone through your images. As far as the lump is concerned, these are the answers for your questions.

1.Do not apply pressure over the lump, it might worsen the infection.

2.To close the lump you need to get the cause treated. This can be done after confirming the diagnosis. If it is a tooth infection, it has to be treated with root canal treatment. If it is secondary to gum infection, get the scaling done.

3. The decision of extraction can be taken after taking the radiograph, if sufficient bone support is there, and then the tooth can be saved. If the bone support is not there, then the tooth has to be removed. As per the images, the tooth looks fine, nothing to worry, it won’t need extraction.
Consult an oral physician and get a radiograph done to confirm the diagnosis and plan treatment. Do not delay.

I hope I have answered your questions.
Take care.
