Brief Answer:
Several points.

Detailed Answer:
The guidelines from the manufacturer are that a tens unit cannot be used from the neck up due to risk of causing seizures. Nobody has ever had a seizure from it so everyone must be following the directions (kidding, someone would have done something stupid like putting it on their tongue. If there aren't reports of seizures with it, it must be ... well...here.

The manufacturer warns against it.

Then, here's how to fix things:
1) elavil is a nerve pill highly effective on nerve pain.
2) TRILOSATE is a liquid aspirin. Unlike most other aspirin like drugs it does NOT have to first go through the liver to work but can work directly if applied to the area. FOr this reason, a small amount diluted in water swished around will still work rapidly and completely even if it is 1/4th the usual dose.

These have be be evaluated and prescribed by one's regular doctor.
