Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
It looks like your son is having a relapse of ulcerative colitis . The best treatment according to me is to give a combination of oral steroids along with tab mesochol. It has given good results and symptomatic relief. I advise you to meet a Gastro enterologosr regarding the same .
I also suggest
1. to watch for blesh bleeding while passing stools
2. Avoid spicy food products
3. Avoid oily food items
4. To avoid milk and milk products
6 daily weight monitoring to check loss of weight
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

my son was on steroids for more than a year. he has been off them for about 2 months. he has been seeing his gastroligest today and his surgeon tomorrow. he is planning on getting his colon removed as soon as the surgeon can schedule it. I am so worried that he is in such a weaken state with the sores and losing so much weight. is it safe to have the operation when he is so weak? do you know the success rate of these operations? please let me know anything you can think of that may help us understand the facts about this procedure. thanks XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Resection of the colon is a good procedure in patients who have undergone and fatigued all the medical options of management. Surgical resection not only gives symptomatic relied but also helps in better management of the patient in the form of lesser requirement of drugs and blood products.
I would like to ask your doctor if Inj Rituximab can be given to your son, I have seen very good results in my patients with similar issues. It has to be given every week for a month.
I hope I was of help
