A radical prostatectomy is done for cancer of prostate gland.
After this surgery, it usually takes about 4-8 weeks for urine control.This control is longer in patients who have had an open surgery, versus a laporoscopic surgery.The fastest recovery is after a robotic surgery.
After this surgery, active exercises are advised to regain urine control. There are medicines also prescribed, to regain urine control.The exercises must be done actively daily,and gradually urine control will occur.Reassure him to be patient. In very severe cases, there are artificial prosthesis used to regain control, but should not be tried till it's six months after surgery.
