Suggest Treatment For Urinary Incontinence While On Metoprolol

Ed has also been taking Amlodipine-Benaz 2.5/10 for several years. He has no other chronic conditions. BMI 24. Doesn't smoke.
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I carefully passed through your question and would explain that the urinary incontinence is not related to Metoprolol intake, even when combined with alcohol.
But, you should know that alcohol has a diuretic effect and it can lead to increased urination frequency and even urinary incontinence from being not possible to go to the toilet in time during the urge. A high amount of alcohol can lead to urinary incontinence.
Anyway, other possible causes to consider would be an urinary tract infection.
So, I would recommend consulting with his doctor for a physical exam and some tests:
- abdominal and urinary tract ultrasound
- kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes
- urine analysis.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri

Dear Dr. Sharka:
I sent the above follow-up question from my iPhone and wasn't sure it was received. So I am sending it again now from my PC. Could you please send me some dietary recommendations for a man in Alcohol Withdrawal (hot/cold sweats; limb tremors; bad dreams and fitful sleep) who is 6-feet tall, 170 pounds? I served him home-made chicken noodle soup for lunch. He consumed about half of the 1-cup portion.
Thank you, XXXX
I would recommend as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello again XXXX!
There is not a special diet during alcohol withdrawal.
But, I would recommend avoid spicy food and caffeine intake, because they can exacerbate his stomach and anxiety.
You should know that chronic alcohol intake can lead to vitamin B1 deficiency.
That is why I would recommend a diet with foods rich in this vitamin like: dried milk, nuts, oats, oranges, beef, liver, pork, eggs, seeds, legumes, peas and yeast.
Fried eggs would be great. Home made soup too!
Some other foods that are often fortified with B1 are rice, pasta, breads, cereals and flour.
So, you can use all these types of foods, making his diet more various in order to help his stomach recover too.
A balanced diet, reach in proteins, vitamins (fresh vegetables and fruits), electrolytes, lipids and carbohydrates is necessary.
Hope to have been helpful!
Wishing all the best and a happy Christmas time,
Dr. Iliri
