Brief Answer:
Removal of the uterus is the surgeon's discretion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

For the milder varieties of uterine prolapse, exercises, changes in the lifestyle and management of weight are sufficient.

For the more severe forms, conservative management, though not of much use, may include insertion of several types of pessaries.

While majority of surgical treatment of prolapse includes removal of the uterus, if wished for and if appropriate, the uterus can be retained while the supportive tissue is repaired, either in the abdominal route or vaginally.

In the current scenario, it remains your surgeon's discretion whether to remove the uterus or not. You are more likely to benefit from surgery since you have a third degree prolapse. Please discuss with your consultant about the feasibility of salvaging the uterus during the procedure, if you wish to retain it.

Hope your query has been answered. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

regards,

Brief Answer:
If possible, you can go for sling operations.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

If you are medically fit to retain your uterus, you can go for sling operations, wherein the uterus is supported in the abdomen through slings sometimes using mesh etc. There are several methods available and your consultant decides what is feasible in your condition.

Pessary may not be of much help in your condition since you have third degree prolapse.

If you are overweight, please try to reduce weight and you can still try Kegel's exercises. There is no harm.

If at all, the uterus needs to be removed, the ovaries are usually retained at your age. Thus, your hormone balance is maintained and you need not worry about unwanted side effects. Just follow the usual postoperative instructions.

Hope your query has been clarified. Please get back if you need more help. I will be glad to oblige.

regards,
Shanti.V.
