Suggest Treatment For Viral Fever In Children

Question: My 13 year old son has a fever of 102 (but says he feels ok, albeit tired), a moderate cough, sore throat, and two small "hives" on his inner thigh. He has stayed home from school, however, I'm concerned that he may have moved into bacterial infection range. Thoughts?

Viral fever is frequently seen in children and it is more likely that your child is also suffering from the same. It is often associated with an allergic component which may be responsible for those hives; though I would like to view the picture of it (you may upload good quality pictures on this page).

I don't see symptoms / indications of bacterial infection. However rather than jumping to conclusions, it would be best to get the blood counts checked to be sure. Your local doctor can guide through test.

Please do not worry as viral fevers are generally associated with high rise of temperature. I would suggest you to visit a doctor with the reports and remain under his follow up as he would be able to examine and evaluate if other causes are likely.
