Suggest Treatment For Vitiligo And White Spots On Hands And Legs
She consulted Dermatologist in US. Doctor said that there is no cure and suggested for some light therapy. but we did not go with any kind of treatment here.
One of the Ayurvedic doctor from XXXXXXX cliamed that there is a cure for Vitilligo in Ayurveda medecine, so she started using Ayurvedic medecine for 4-5 months. But this did not help.
in Around Oct/Nov, white spots looks like stopped spreading but now (in may) again she started seeing the new white spots on face and other parts of the body.
Can you please suggest us what to eat and what not-to eat to stop spreading Vitilligo.

The above product claims that the color will be restored and will start shading out after 5-7 days. Can you suggest if this can be used on face to cover white spots?
Thanks
I suggest her to undergo specific treatment for vitiligo beside camouflage
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I am Dr.Kakkar (Dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.
There are no specific dietary recommendations or restrictions for vitiligo.
Vitiligo is an immune mediated disease characterised by destruction of melanocytes, thus resulting in white patches.
There are numerous effective treatment options for vitiligo.
Topical: steroids, tacrolimus, b- fibroblast growth factor, topical psoralen, targetter broad band UV B phototherapy.
Systemic: PUVA, NB-UVB, systemic steroids, immunomodulators like levamisole and Zinc.
The product at http://shop.vitiligocover.com/ is just a camouflage option for covering vitiligo patches while undergoing specific treatment for vitiligo. Such products usually contain Dihydroxyacetone as a camouflaging agent. It should not be used on face because color mis-match can counter the purpose of camouflage. Anyways this is going to temporary and can be tried, if it can serve the purpose.

Currently my wife started seeing white spots on her face, she want to wait for another 6 months to start the treatment as she wants to get the treatment in XXXXXXX instead of in US.
will there be any issuess to the skin if she uses on her face, other then little color mismatch, is it going to be little different color? but will there be any side effects on using the product http://shop.vitiligocover.com/ .
I also want to know if she uses the product for 6 months and if she stop using that, is her white marks going to be same as before or is there any chance of becoming any bad?
Thank you
And also, I have one more question. Does having thyroid makes vitiligo worst? my wife has Thyroid few years back and she did not get tested for thyroid for last 2 years.
She did not get appointment for thyroid and physical till July.
Assuming that she has thyroid, Does she need to take any precautions to not to make vitiligo worst?
Thanks again.
Answers to specific queries
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Other than color mismatch I don't think there would be any other issue.
This product is not going to affect the progression or course of vitiligo as it is just a camouflage.
Thyroid is more common in patients of vitiligo as both of these are autoimmune diseases. Though there are no precautions to be taken other than treatment for thyroid.

Can you please close the discussion. I am not able to review until the discussion is closed.

just started seeing the patch turning to white on the face. "Desonide Cream 0..05%" , can this cream be used on the face to treat the white spot on the face ?
Suggestions for topical use
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Desonide is too mild. I would suggest either fluticasone propionate 0.05% cream (flutivate) or mometasone furoate 0.1% cream (momate) for local application or tacrolimus 0.1% ointment (tacroz)
