Question: My daughter is 2 years old. Last week she had vomiting followed by loose stools for 3 days. We gave her pro biotic endogermina and zinc solution and both those things have come down but since last two days she is acting very strange. No activity ,crankiness and sleeps and falls to floor as if she has no strength. Today we went to doctor and he believes she still has mild stomach infection and prescribed junior lanzol. Do I need to worry?

Brief Answer:
Possibly due to electrolyte imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query. Your daughter had an episode of gastroenteritis, possibly due to viral cause. Although the episode has passed, it has possibly left her in a fluid and salt depleted stage. Such a condition of electrolyte imbalance could give rise to such a presentation. Give her ORS (oral rehydration solution) as well as juicy fruits like citrus fruits and bananas. They should replenish the gap and should ease her of her problems and you would need to worry no further.

You may give her Lanzol Junior for the next few days.

Feel free to write back.

Thanks for the reply doctor. As a follow up question we would like why she feels little bursts of tummy pain since last two days. Is this natural with electrolyte imbalance? Especially after waking up from sleep? Also we are wondering what kind of solid food can we give her to minimize any side effect?

Brief Answer:
Tummy pain is possibly due to gastritis.

Detailed Answer:
The tummy pain is likely to be due to gastritis and Lanzol Junior is being given for the same. The fluid depletion and electrolyte imbalance could be the reason for her crankiness and feeling weak, especially after waking up.

You can feel free to give any sort of food (except for spicy ones) that she can tolerate. Make sure to keep the gaps between meals small. No worries.
