Brief Answer:
Seb. dermatitis; topical steroids, topical antifungals & mmunomodulators

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have also reviewed the attachment.

You seem to have seborrheic dermatitis.

Can you upload a few Images of your skin involvement for a confirmatory diagnosis?

Seborrheic dermatitis usually presents as red, itching and scaling on scalp.

Apart from scalp, facial areas like glabella, eyebrows, mustache, chin etc may also be involved with these dry, scaly patches.

After going through the prescription I can see that you have been asked to use an antifungal shampoo for scalp along with Oral antifungal tablet.

How has your skin condition responded with the prescribed treatment?? Has it been effective??

Topical and oral antifungal shampoo do help with seborrheic dermatitis but the condition can recur after seemingly complete cure, therefore maintenance treatment is often required either with topical antifungals Or with topical immunomodulators like pimecrolimus.

Seborrheic dermatitis is steroid responsive skin condition.
Therefore, for initial faster improvement I usually suggest my patients to apply a moderately potent topical steroid e.g either fluticasone propionate 0.05% lotion Or Mometasone furoate 0.1% lotion, twice daily.
These usually brings about a remarkable improvement in about 2 weeks.

Seborrheic dermatitis, however, may relapse after steroids are stopped.

Therefore, if recurrence is an issue as well as for mild skin involvement either a topical antifungal like ketoconazole Or a topical immunomodulator e.g tacrolimus Or pimecrolimus is suitable.

Brief Answer:
Antifungal treatment should work for you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Yes, these should be enough for your skin condition.

As such, there is no contraindication for alcohol or smoking.

You may use a conditioner e.g L'oreal Or Dove conditioner.

Brief Answer:
Can take itraconazole after meals Or with carbonated drinks

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Acidic gastric pH favors dissolution and better absorption of itraconazole, therefore it is better to take the tablet after meals Or along with carbonated drinks like coke etc.
These would encourage dissolution of itraconazole and better absorption.

Consuming alcohol would also encourage dissolution and better absorption of itraconazole because alcohol also decreases gastric pH though no doctor would ask you to take this tablet with alcohol, for obvious reasons!! i.e consuming alcohol is not supposed to be encouraged by any doctor.

So, I think that this might be the only reason for your doctor asking you to avoid alcohol.

However you may take itraconazole with carbonated drinks like coke etc for better absorption Or after meals.

Otherwise there is no interaction between alcohol consumption and growth of fungi.

Brief Answer:
Alcohol consumption does'nt increase fungal growth Or affect seb.dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

No, it won't increase fungal growth.

It must be a general advice to avoid alcohol rather than a specific advice regarding seb dermatitis.
