Question: Hello doctor ,

About 6 months ago( dont remember before that ), i noticed some marks around my eyes ( pics attached).
Not sure exactly how and when they appeared. Just want to know if they are relayed to any medical condition or result of using some cosmetics.
I was reading about "xanthelasma" on the Internet . Not sure if it's the same . Please clarify and also suggest the treatment to get rid of them.

Thanks ,

Brief Answer:
Xanthelasma

Detailed Answer:
hello. thank you for writing to UA

I am Dr. Kakkar(dermatollogist). Ibhaclve gone through your query and I have viewed the image.

Yes, those are Xanthelasma - Yellowish orange, triangular/ polygonall, raised plaques on inner side of lower eyelids. They are more common in females and mostly arise in the 4th decade. Once formed they are permanent i.e won't go on there own. They may in fact increase in size. Xanthelasma form due to lipid deposition in the skin and are more common in those who have a higher serum lipid levels as compared to those who don't have them. Therefore, I suggest you to get a test for serum lipids levels.. Treatment of xanthelasma is with either local application of Trichloroacetic acid 25-50% (multiple sittings may be required) or with Radiofrequency cautery. I suggest you to visit a dermatologist in your region for the needful.

Regards
